MANUAL IDLE ADJUSTMENT FOR HARLEY-DAVIDSON Fuel-INJECTION
THE POTATO 2.0® — The original manual air idle adjustment system for V-Twin engines (1995–2023)
🔧 TANK TUNING TIPS (Dyna, Softail, Touring — right side on Sportster)*
① 🏍️ Preparation before starting Before starting, position yourself facing your motorcycle, on the air filter side, then slightly open the knob to facilitate cold starting.
② 🔑 Starting up : Get on the bike, keeping it perfectly upright, then start the engine, aiming for approximately **1100 rpm**. ➡️ With practice, you will naturally adjust the number of clicks required.
③ 🌡️ Warm-up Allow the engine to warm up for **30 seconds to 1 minute**. ⚠️ Do not reduce the engine speed to **800 rpm** while it is still cold, as it may stall as a protective measure.
④ ✋ Adjustment under the tank: Reach under the tank and gradually reduce the idle speed, notch by notch, by turning the dial with your fingertips. ✠ *(The Maltese cross version offers an even more precise and intuitive grip.)*
⑤ 🛣️ Final warm-up: Don't immediately aim for the minimum idle speed. Go for a short drive (**3 to 4 min**) to complete the warm-up. 🚦 When stopped (stop sign, traffic light), adjust if necessary.
⑥ 🔥 Restarting after parking After prolonged parking, slightly unscrew the adjustment knob to increase the idle speed before restarting.
⑦ ⚡ Warm Engine Once the engine is warm, no further adjustments are required. ⚡ A simple blip of the throttle is enough to stabilize the start.
⏳ BE PATIENT. Take the time to get used to this setting. 🤝 Your machine will adapt to your hand. 🏁 Very soon, you won't want to go back.
🛠️ Remember to clear your error codes from time to time: your ECM will then understand that the idle adjustment has now switched to manual mode.
