THE "SOUND OF HISTORY"
MANUAL IDLE ADJUSTMENT FOR HARLEY DAVIDSON FUEL-INJECTION (1995-2021/2023)

MANUFACTURER'S FINAL TECHNICAL STATEMENT

Following numerous recurring discussions regarding the supposed influence of idle speed optimization on the reliability of Harley-Davidson® engines, the manufacturer wishes to establish this final technical statement.

The purpose of this communication is to definitively clarify our position based exclusively on engineering data, mechanical tests and real operational feedback accumulated over a period of almost fifteen years.

Validation through operational experience

Our solution is used internationally by professional mechanics as well as experienced users, representing several thousand motorcycles in circulation and an estimated cumulative total of several million kilometers of real-world use.

During this period:

  • no structural engine failures
  • no lubrication defects,
  • no degradation of the charging system,
  • nor any abnormal wear directly attributable to the controlled optimization of the idle speed has been technically identified.

The observations collected are based exclusively on documented and verifiable cases.

technical framework

Our product is designed to operate only within mechanical ranges compatible with:

  • engine lubrication capabilities,
  • the original mechanical tolerances,
  • normal operating thermal constraints,
  • and the design characteristics of the engines in question.

No structural modifications to the engine, lubrication system, or electrical system are required for proper use.

Engineering position

After thorough technical analysis and extended field validation, it has been established that:

A reasonable and controlled optimization of the idle speed does not, in itself, constitute a factor of mechanical engine degradation.

The performance, durability and reliability of an engine depend primarily on the quality of maintenance, the lubricant used and the actual conditions of use — and not exclusively on the nominal value of the idle speed.

Final clarification

Consequently, the manufacturer considers the claims attributing mechanical failures to a controlled reduction in idle speed to be unfounded

  • are not based on any reproducible technical demonstration,
  • are not corroborated by available operating data,
  • and do not reflect the current state of mechanical knowledge observed in real-world conditions.

Position closure

This statement constitutes the manufacturer's official and final technical position on this subject.

Unless measurable, documented and reproducible technical elements are presented according to a recognized engineering methodology, no further communication will be undertaken on this issue.

Permanent commitment

Our responsibility as a manufacturer remains unchanged:

  • design according to proven engineering principles,
  • validated through real-world testing,
  • continuously improve our products based on objective data.

We will continue to support our users and professional partners with reliable mechanical solutions, developed in compliance with industry standards and the mechanical integrity of Harley-Davidson® engines.
